Bill Ehred tells me that there is some confusion in the rank and file regarding time limits on DBA games.
Bill and I agree there is no ambiguity, and that these are the rules:
GENERAL RULE ON TIME LIMITS:
There is no general time limit on games in any DBA division.
This means that there is NO GENERAL TIME LIMIT for
10U fastpitch
12U fastpitch,
12U hardball,
14U fastpitch,
14U hardball,
18U fastpitch
or 18U hardball.
EXCEPTION WHERE A SECOND GAME IS SCHEDULED ON THE SAME FIELD:
The only exception to the general time limit rules stated above has to do with lighted fields used for more than one game on a given evening. At present, this apparently only affects Riverview, Woodhaven and Wyandotte games since those are the cities using lighted fields.
This exception is for ALL DIVISIONS (10U fastpitch, 12U fastpitch, 12U hardball, 14U fastpitch, 14U hardball, 18U fastpitch and 18U hardball). The exception provides that if there is a game following on the same field, the time limit on the first game is 1 hour and 45 minutes.
The purpose of the rule is to make sure that the earlier scheduled game does not unfairly use time allocated for the following game on the same field.
IF THERE IS NO GAME FOLLOWING, THE 1h 45m EXCEPTION DOES NOT APPLY.
In other words, just because a field has lights does not mean that the exception applies. To apply the exception there must be a second game on the same field.
WHEN DOES A NEW INNING START?
Now, an inning is deemed to start immediately upon the third out of the preceding inning. So, for example, if we are talking about the first of two games at Riverview on one of its lighted fields, and the last out of the bottom of the 5th inning is made at 1 hr 44 minutes, then a 6th inning can be played even if it runs past the time limit because the 6th inning started before the time limit expired. But, if the last out of the bottom of the 5th is made at 1 hr 46 minutes, then that game is over.

EDIT TO ADD:
EFFECTIVE FOR THE 2008 SEASON THE TIME LIMIT HAS BEEN ELIMINATED FOR 10U FASTPITCH. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR RULES.
